i know since writers and actors are already striking thats gonna take up most of the news space on social media but like. ups has until july 31st to meet the teamster’s demands and if not then theyre going on the biggest strike against a single corporation since the early 1900s. the uaw (auto manufacturers union) contract is up this fall, and i believe the alu (amazon labor union) is as well. there’s a huge possibility that they might strike as well, depending on how long the ups strike lasts.
im seeing a lot of talk about hollywood going down but i want to see more talk about labor rights and working class solidarity across the board… like A Lot of shit is about to go down
we’re about to see a lot more propaganda by more than just hollywood, we’re about to see a lot of bullshit political moves on local, state, and federal levels. dont fall for it. workers have power.

Speaking of the luck of the non-disabled…I once terrorized a Karen who was using me to teach her entitled kid that disabled people are Other and should not be treated with respect. I told her (truthfully) that until I was twenty-eight, I wasn’t visibly disabled. Then a defective chromosome that I hadn’t known about kicked in. So my luck ran out. But until then, I had been normal–just…like…her.
The sheer terror on her face as the concept of “You mean I’ve just been lucky so far?” seeped into her brain was a thing of beauty.

I was healthy and fit and doing everything ‘right’ too - right up until some inner switch flipped and my body crumbled right out from under me.

and another thing. the way Miles’ mother - emblematic of his family, his people, his story - tells him she’s afraid that other people won’t love him, won’t look out for him, outside of their world. she means their neighborhood in Brooklyn but Miles literally leaves his entire reality and ends hunted by his fellow spiders for refusing to conform to the narrative codified by seemingly countless Peter Parkers, refusing to live the story that has been unquestioningly accepted as The spider-man story. the way Miguel insinuates that Miles stole his role as spider-man, hatefully calls him an anomaly, believes that Miles is the thing that makes the canon not work. it’s SUCH a juicy meta narrative about the struggle of legacy characters, ESPECIALLY characters of color succeeding white characters, struggling to be seen as characters in their own right with a story worth of being part of the world. Miles being Spider-Man is only problematic if you, like Miguel, are operating on the assumption that Spider-Man’s story should always be Peter Parker’s story with a few cosmetic changes.
